Eyebrow threading usually lasts about 4 to 5 weeks, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Most people come back a little sooner, every 3 to 4 weeks, to keep the shape crisp. Your own hair growth decides the exact timing: some brows look tidy for a month, others need a touch-up sooner.

How long does eyebrow threading last?

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says threading results can last 4 to 5 weeks. That is because threading lifts each hair out from the root, so the brow stays clean until new hairs grow through.

It does not mean you’ll see nothing for five weeks. Fine new hairs usually start to show before then, and that is when many people choose to rebook.

How often should I get my eyebrows threaded?

Every 3 to 4 weeks suits most people. A dermatologist quoted by Cleveland Clinic says, “Most people get threaded every three to four weeks,” because that is usually enough time for the hair to regrow enough to be removed well with thread.

She adds that it is a question of personal preference and how fast your hair grows. Some people like a sharp line at all times and come in sooner. Others are happy to wait until the shape softens.

What the sources say, side by side

Source What it says about how long threading lasts
American Academy of Dermatology Results can last 4 to 5 weeks
Cleveland Clinic Most people get threaded every 3 to 4 weeks
Healthline (medically reviewed, 2020) Results average 4 to 5 weeks; waxed brow hairs may grow back within a few weeks

These are general ranges, not promises. Your own timing may be shorter or longer.

Why does my threading wear off faster than my friend’s?

Because hair grows at different speeds for different people. Cleveland Clinic’s dermatologist says how often you get threaded depends on your hair growth rate. A few things that change how soon you notice regrowth:

  • How dark your hair is against your skin. Dark regrowth on light skin shows sooner.
  • How sharp you like your shape. If you like a crisp line, you will notice strays earlier.
  • How long you have been threading. See the next section.

Does threading last longer the more you do it?

It can. Cleveland Clinic’s dermatologist says, “Hairs become less dense with repeated threading sessions,” and that you’ll notice hairs become thinner in diameter and take longer to grow back.

That cuts both ways. The same source warns that brow styles change and your brows might not be able to keep up, so be conservative about how much hair you ask to have removed. If you might want fuller brows later, say so at your appointment.

How can I make my threaded brows look tidy for longer?

You can stretch the time between visits with a few small habits:

  1. Leave the shape alone. Cleveland Clinic says you can pluck stray hairs at home between appointments if your hair grows quickly. Take only the obvious strays outside the shape.
  2. Don’t chase every hair. Over-plucking the edges is the quickest way to lose a good shape.
  3. Rebook before it grows out completely. A shape is easier to keep than to rebuild. If you book every 3 to 4 weeks, your threader is refining a line, not starting again.
  4. Pair areas. If you also thread your upper lip, doing both in one visit keeps you on one schedule. At Kurves, eyebrows with upper lip is $20.

Is threading longer-lasting than shaving or trimming?

Yes. Cleveland Clinic notes that, like waxing and plucking, threading pulls hair fibers out from the root, so you can go longer between appointments than between shaving sessions. Trimming only shortens hair; it does not remove it.

Does threading last longer than waxing?

They are close. The AAD puts threading at 4 to 5 weeks and waxing at “a few weeks or longer.” Healthline’s medically reviewed comparison says threading results can last slightly longer on average. Either way, both remove hair from the root. The bigger difference is shape: we compare them in threading vs waxing for eyebrows.

What if I’m growing my brows out?

Tell your threader before you start. Growing brows out means leaving hair alone that you might normally remove. You may come in less often, for example for a light tidy of strays, while the rest fills in. A good plan is agreed together at the chair, not guessed at home.
